Quixotic Polish: The Flakie Bombs Collection

I’m so darn excited because I have a Quixotic Polish collection to share in today’s post. Y’all know how much I love me some Quixotic Polish goodness. And, even better, it’s a whole collection of delicious flakie polishes. Y’all know how much I love me some flakie polish goodness, too! Needless to say, I am happy as a pig in mud — ha, ha!

This is a five-piece collection, which released at the beginning of this month. I don’t think it was for any special occasion or Spring or Summer or anything like that. I think this collection happened on a bit of a whim from Quixotic’s maker. And you know what? I think that is fabulous!! Another thing that is fabulous to me about this collection is that it is full of unexpectedly dark and vampy colors. Y’all know how I love the dark and vampy.  And the Quixotic. And the flakie. So, yeah … Spoiler Alert: I freaking love this whole collection!! But you knew that already, didn’t you?

Ambrosia is a “dark teal blue base ignited with red to gold to green shifting shimmers and accented with holo micro flakes”. This polish has a lovely formula. It is easy to apply and has a nice “heft” to it going onto the nail. It was opaque for me in 1-2 coats on my short nails. I might want 2-3 coats if my nails were longer.

I wanted to try and catch some of the shift on this polish. It’s really obvious in person, but I had a hard time capturing it in photos. I feel like the greens show up the most in photos, although you can see the golds in person. And the reds flicker across your nails pretty constantly: like little embers.

Ugh. This moody beauty gets my little, glass, polish-loving heart pumping like mad. I love everything about it. I don’t usually feel I am a fan of teals, but I love this one. I think it’s because of how this polish is packed to the brim with shimmer galore. The lovely holographic in here doesn’t hurt, either!

Aquamarine is an “oceanic turquoise with aqua holo micro glitters and blue/green/gold shifting iridescent flakes”. This polish has a good formula. I found it slightly sheer going onto the nail in the first coat. But it builds up well for full opacity in 2-3 coats. It’s opaque in 2, but I like the depth of color the third coat gives.

Son of a Biscuit Eater, but this is a fabulous, fabulous, fabulous polish!! It sparkles in a way that is almost unreal. It’s gorgeous in the sunlight and beautifully flickery in indirect lighting or shade. I love how I can see flakes and glitters through every layer of the manicure. This one really does give me an “ocean” or “mermaid” vibe when I wear it. It’s also the lightest of the collection, color-wise.

Haunting is a “raisin purple base full of a delicate red/green shifting iridescent flake”. This polish has a very nice formula. It has a jelly feel going onto the nail, but I found it slightly thicker than I expected it to be upon application. This was a good thing for me. I enjoyed the formula and enjoyed the feel of it gliding over my nails. This one was opaque for me in 2-3 coats.

Just … RAWR!!!! This polish makes me want to run around screaming like a little kid hopped up on too much sugar. The color and depth of the base give this polish a mysterious sort of feeling. The base color is beautiful, and the flakes shift gorgeously against it. I was pretty much in lovey-lust with this polish from the first stroke of the brush. It was easily a favorite for me from the collection. I had to wear it right away, and I did not want to take it off. In fact, it is still sitting on my desk, waiting to be worn again!

Nightshade is a “blackened teal base packed with red/gold/green and green/blue shifting iridescent flakes”. This pretty baby has a good formula. It was easy to apply and had a medium sort of thickness going onto the nail. I liked the opacity in 2-3 coats.

Beautiful, beautiful, BEAUTIFUL!! I love the murky color of this base. It has such a nice mix of blue, green, and black. It’s kind of swampy, in a way. The flakes flash beautifully against this base. I feel like it shows off the blues and greens perfectly, with a flicker of more golden tones. This one reminds me of Aquamarine, but in a darker version. It has a lovely depth on the nail.

Red Ivy is a “lush brick maroon filled to the brim with a dazzling array of red/gold/green iridescent flakes”. This polish has a great formula. It has a nice opacity and feel going onto the nail, and I liked the opacity in 2-3 coats.

Va-va-va-VOOM!! This is a delicious beauty on the nail. It absolutely took me by surprise. The base color and the shifting colors of the flakes are an amazing combination. It is dark and moody, and it feels “Fall”. But this is perfect to me for any time of the year. I love it!

So? What do you guys think? This is not a collection I would expect to see releasing in the Spring or Summer months. But that’s exactly why I love it. Well … let’s be honest. It’s one reason why I love it. I would be all over a dark and vampy collection at any time of the year.

Have you guys tried any of the polishes from this collection? I would love to hear what you think of them!
