Topic Tuesday: Favorite Brown Polishes

Woo Hoo!! I’ve been looking forward to this Topic Tuesday for ages. I was so looking forward to it, in fact, that I almost did it last week by mistake. D’oh!! But we must wait for good things to come to us, right? Which makes us polish-loving addicts super, super lucky, because every day brings lovely, beautiful, and wonderfully good things our way. Speaking of “good things”, today’s topic is …

Y’all … I love me a good brown polish. I know many people may find brown a boring color or hum-drum or whatever. In fact, my mother shakes her head sadly and comments on how it’s “so boring” every time I buy a beautiful new brown polish.

But there is something about a gloriously pretty, rich brown that gets my little, glass heart going pitter-patter. It is a versatile color. I think it’s wonderful for pretty much all year round. If you are a seasonal polish person, there are lighter browns that are perfect for Spring, then slightly deeper/darker for Summer into Fall, and the darkest of the deep-darks for Winter wear. I love how brown is neutral, so you can have some type of color on your nails even in a work or business setting. It is beautiful on its own. And it looks fantastic as a base for nail art. Needless to say, I have a pretty long list of favorite browns to share.

A. England, Sir Loyal Heart. I am kicking off my list of browns with a big BANG!! Because I love, love, love this polish. It is rich and elegant, and it feels luxurious to me when I wear it. This one has a perfect formula, as I have come to expect from this brand. The holographic is gorgeous. I love how you can see hints of coppery-gold throughout the polish, along with the rainbow goodness. I never get tired of seeing this beauty on my nails when I manicure with it.

China Glaze, Buffalo Bills, Bills, Bills! is rather new to my stash. But it became an instant favorite for me. Talk about golden goodness! I love the gold running through this polish, as well as the slight tint of a greenish hue. It gives this polish a beautiful, bronze look when the sun hits it just right. At other times, it looks like velvet. But it is always deep, dark, and luscious.

Colores de Carol, Sugar Cookie Mojito. This is a gorgeous brown with just a hint of red to it. I love the holographic in this one, and I love, love, love that bit of red undertone. She is sassy, sassy, sassy!!

Colores de Carol, The  Wolfman’s Fur. This is another brown that became an instant favorite. And it was a favorite for me out of its collection, too. I have so much love for this polish. The brown is beautiful, with those slight gold or coppery undertones to it. But the holographic, shimmer, and small glitters/shreds in here are what really make this polish for me. I love how the shimmers can show pink as the light falls across my nails. But those little pops of lime green really, really get my motor running. Rawr!!

LePolish, Little Wooden Horse. This might be something of a “cheat” for this topic, because there is a lot of red in this polish. I think it has much more of a balance between red and brown, so that it could qualify for either of those colors. I wanted to include this one because it is so lovely and often gets overlooked in my stash. The gold shimmers in here are super pretty, and I love how this reminds me of mahogany wood.

OPI, Espresso Your Style. This has been a favorite for me for quite some time. It was one of the first polishes I thought of when I saw this week’s topic. I love the gold shimmer in here, although I find it is a bit subtle on the nail. But the main reason I love this polish so much is for the deep and rich purple undertones. It is so pretty and elegant.

Pretty Serious, Pluviophile. I honestly debated over including this polish. I used to love this brand, but I now have more mixed feelings about it. In the end, I decided to go ahead and include this polish, no matter my current feelings about the brand itself. Because this really is a delicious and lovely brown. This one has a slightly gray undertone to it, and I feel I can see some rosiness in here, too, depending on the light. It reminds me of milk chocolate. It has a great formula. I love it in a manicure on its own, and I also love it as a base for nail art.

Quixotic Polish, Keep Your Eye on the Fall. Ugh. This polish!! It makes me want to scream in happiness. That is how much I love it. It is golden and coppery and slightly red or orange. And the holographic in here is beautiful. This is one of the most unique browns in my stash, for sure. It would make a beautiful base for nail art, but I confess I generally wear it on its own. I can’t bring myself to cover it up with any designs!

Zoya, Cinnamon. This is another brown that has been a favorite of mine for a number of years. And, like Espresso Your Style, I thought of this polish immediately when I saw this week’s topic. This brown is stunning. It is golden and lovely, with a slightly bronze look in certain types of lighting. The shimmer doesn’t show strongly on the nail as “shimmer”, but it gives the polish a beautiful finished look.

Whew!!! That’s a whole lotta brown, y’all! As I said, I freaking love brown polish. It is a color I buy often, and I had a hard time narrowing down all my “loves” to this list.

What about you guys? Do you have any favorite browns in your stash? I would love to hear all about them.
