My Week in Nails

Y’all!! I can’t believe November is upon us already. I have no idea where the month of October went, but I feel like it fairly flew by me in a blur of activity. I suppose that’s exactly what happened to it: a blur of moving and marching band activity. November brings its own challenges. In particular, I’ve decided to try my hand at NaNoWriMo for the first time in a few years. And I’m already a day behind. What??? Argh!

But even being a day behind shall not keep me from talking about my week’s worth of manicures. Oh, wait … I’m a day behind in this, too, aren’t I? I suppose that is going to be my common theme — for now. Ha!

I started out this week pretty much where I left off with last week: with NeVerMind Polish, Hellequin. I love, love, love this polish. I also love this color combination. The red glitters glisten and twinkle mysteriously down in the depths of the dark base color. So, so pretty. I decided to stamp over it with Funky Fingers, Gesso and a design from What’s Up Nails plate A012.

I enjoyed this manicure very much, although it is not what I had in mind. I originally wanted to do the spider web stamping in either silver or gold holographic polish. But, for whatever reason, my stamping skills were not up to the task on the day I did this one. I got frustrated and ended up going for this thicker, white polish. Although I like the effect well enough, I wish the stamping was a little less stark in contrast to the base polish.

My next manicure was with China Glaze, Zombie Zest. I topped it with Quixotic Polish, Snake Eyes and stamped over all of this with Funky Fingers, Dark Knight and designs from What’s Up Nails, plates A012 and B023

I have a few macro photos for this manicure, as I was really, really happy with how it turned out. I happened upon this base combination by accident. I set out with the intention of using a completely different base color for this design. It turns out I must have either destashed, lost, or broken the bottle of polish I originally wanted to use. Upon this unhappy discovery, I started to experiment with different base and topper combinations.

Zombie Zest wasn’t on my radar when I started out on this adventure, but I realized I hadn’t yet worn it for the Fall or Halloween seasons. So … I pulled it out and tried it with my newest topper. As soon as I saw Zombie Zest and Snake Eyes together, it was all over and done. I was like, “Hellooooo, pretty polish!!”

I’ve used this stamping design combination in the past, and I tend to struggle with it. I often end up getting the designs crooked or not transferring the whole thing properly. For this manicure, I had three coats of Zombie Zest and then two coats of Snake Eyes. After all that trouble, I didn’t want to take a chance on messing things up, so I used a glossy topcoat over the base color. Lucky for me, my stamping game was more or less on point, and I didn’t have to start over from the beginning. I loved this manicure so much that I didn’t want to take it off. So I wore it all the way through Halloween. And right on through most of November 1, too!

And this is my final manicure for the week. This is a new polish for me, which only arrived on Friday. It is Quixotic Polish, Float Away. I love this shade of blue. And the shimmer. And the flakes. This polish has pretty much everything that gets my polish-loving heart beating with a pitter patter. I knew right away it had to go onto my nails in a full manicure.

So there you have it! My entire week in nails … one day late. (Or two, if you believe Word Press. But, as I have cautioned in the past: Don’t believe it for a moment!! Sneaky WordPress, with its date-ninja activity.) As usual, I feel it was a grand week in terms of nail polish. I spent a lot of time staring at my manicure this week. Although, perhaps I shouldn’t admit that out loud.

What about you guys? Did you have a great week of nail polish loveliness? Did you have any particular favorites? I would love to hear all about them!

    1. Thanks so much! I was so, so happy with how that manicure turned out. I want to try that base color and topper combination with some Fall leaf stamping this month — hopefully. The reds and golds in the topper feel very “Fall” to me.
