My Week in Nails

I think I’ve already mentioned how my week was pretty crappy, overall. Mentally, I haven’t been in a great place. And so, I am playing a little bit of catch-up on my nail blog. I posted about things in more detail on my “life blog”. But, in the interest of not crossing too many boundaries between the blogs, I will just leave my “sorry I’m tardy” excuse here and call it done.

I didn’t have many manicures last week. This is partly due to my crummy week and not having the mental energy to change my polish. Which is kinda scary, because it is not a thing that happens to me very often. But (!!) I also had a couple of manicures I absolutely LOVED. And I did not want to take them off. Oh! And I wore all the nail arts this past week! Well, I mean, not ALL the nail arts. But nail art all the time. You know what I mean. Right?

I started out my week with this angry jack-o-lanterns manicure. I used China Glaze, Chic Happens as the base color. I stamped over it with Colores de Carol, The Scarecrow Walks at Midnight. The design is from What’s Up Nails plate B023.

I love this cackling jack-o-lantern design, and I try to use it at least once every Halloween. Typically, I manage to use it multiple times, so there is a good chance you will see it again before the end of the season.

Or, maybe not. I just checked my calendar and realized there are only 3 days left (because I am actually posting this on Oct. 28, and not the 29th, even though WordPress seems to disagree … *ahem*) until Halloween! But we shall see.

This year, I wanted to try the design over a more reflective or metallic base color. I happened to have Chic Happens sitting out, just waiting for her moment in the sun — so to speak. The Scarecrow Walks at Midnight is a wonder polish. It is the most perfect, perfect sizzling orange ever. Plus, it stamps like a fiend. I love that polish.

For my next manicure, I stepped waaaaay out of my comfort zone with a whole mess ‘o’ spiders. I used a Colores de Carol prototype polish for the base of this manicure. It is a red-orange polish with matte black hexes and holographic. I stamped with Bundle Monster black (spiders) and China Glaze, I Sea Ponies (webs). The designs came from two different What’s Up Nails plates: A012 and B023.

Whew! That was a LOT of description for this manicure! I started out thinking I would put this spider design on all my nails. But then, I realized I had never used the web design from my second Halloween plate. And, once I had webs, I figured I should put some spiders into them. It all kind of snowballed from there. I think this is the first time I have done a manicure where I put different designs on my nails. It was fun! I may try to do something like this again sometime.

This was the design for my index finger. I loved how this Colores de Carol prototype worked as the background for this manicure. It is such a pretty polish. The color is vibrant and bright, but the holographic makes it glow off the nail. I’ve had this polish in my stash for a few months. I was saving it for Halloween!

Just one spider for my pinky, because it’s a tiny nail. I was beyond happy with how well the webs stamped! Since I hadn’t tried that design before, I wasn’t sure how it would work out. But it stamped like a dream. And the whole web thing might be my favorite design for this Halloween. One of my manicures for next week will feature the webs, too. (Spoiler Alert!)

And, last but not least, here is my thumb. Because she never gets to be in the picture. And also because I decided to give her a special design. This design was my daughter’s favorite. She said she liked the spiders in the silvery holographic better than in black.

My next manicure was with Quixotic Polish, Wicca.

qp-wicca-macro1-smI had worn my red spider manicure for a little while when I got a package from Quixotic Polish. I was pretty hot and heavy in love with that spider manicure, so I knew it would take a LOT to get me to take it off and try something new. Even the idea that October was quickly fleeing and I was running out of time for Halloween nail art wasn’t enough.

You guys probably already know Quixotic Polish is a new love for me this year. I was eagerly awaiting this package, because it had this polish in it. I could not wait to get this shifty, mysterious beauty on my nails. And so, I wore it on its own for around a day or so.

And then, I stamped over it, too! This design is from What’s Up Nails plate B023, and I did the stamping with Bundle Monster white. I couldn’t bear to cover up all of this gorgeously shifty polish. I am deeply in love with the indigo flakes, and I wanted to see them on my nails. So, I decided to stamp over a couple of nails only. I ended up loving this look. I often enjoy having a design on a couple of nails because it feels carefree and playful to me.

Is it just me, or does Wicca look even more gorgeous with the white stamping? Ugh. I seriously love this polish, you guys.

THE WRAP-UP:

So, yeah … It was a crappy life week. But it was a great mani week! A girl’s gotta have something to hang onto, right? Right! Here is hoping the coming week will be much, much better.
