I’m rolling into the blog on a Wednesday (even though my blog will say it’s Thursday … ) for a late-in-the-day collection review of the Colores de Carol Fall 2018 collection. I’ve been working on a swatching project for the last couple of days, which means I missed my usual Tuesday post. But I finished my swatches today. It left me enough time for the collection review post I intended to do last week. Huzzah!!
The Colores de Carol Fall 2018 collection is called Into the Wild. It is themed on camping. In my case, that would be “glamping”. I like to hike in the woods. I like to make short forays into the woods to take pictures or, maybe, see the flora and fauna. But I do NOT want to sleep there. Ever. And I grew up in the country! Also, I feel I would not be able to do my nails while swatting mosquitoes. Yet another mark against the whole camping thing. But I digress …
I’m going to go through these in alphabetical order, and I will pull the descriptions from the Colores de Carol website.
Boots and Jeans is a denim blue holographic with chameleon glitter (blue/purple/red) and iridescent flakes. This polish has a great formula. It is opaque in 2 easy-peasy coats.
You guys know this one is my favorite, right? It’s not a spoiler or anything at this point. I think we can all go into this with our eyes open, and we all know, right from the start, that this gorgeous blue will be my favorite from the collection.
And it IS gorgeous! It is a perfect shade of blue. I love how it is kind of bright but still a little bit soft. And those flakes! Ugh. I freaking adore those flakes. It is so, so, so pretty and perfect on the nail.
Building the Tent is a medium holographic purple with a blue flash and UCC flakes. This polish has a great formula. It is mostly opaque in 1 coat, although I liked it best at 2.
I have no idea what’s going on with me this year, but I am REALLY feeling this grape purple color tone. And this is a goooooood one. I love the color of the base in this polish. It is so pretty, and I feel like I can see just a hint of red undertone. And those flakes! Can we just talk about those flakes for a moment? They are the perfect little bit of extra. Love it!
Camping Hair, Don’t Care! is a deep cherry red crelly with micro holo glitter and holo micro flakes. This polish has a great formula that is opaque in 2 easy coats. Truthfully, it’s pretty much opaque in 1, but you guys know I always use 2.
You guys … Oh. My. GOSH!! This red is Love. I don’t even know what else to say other than that. Because I flippin’ ADORE this red. It’s a gorgeous, rich tone of red that, to my eye, falls somewhere between a cherry red and a cranberry red. I’ve said this about a gazillion times, and I will likely say it a gazillion more: I am not a gal who wears a lot of red polish. I’ve already manicured with this one. I wore it this week, and I could not get enough of it against my skin tone. I love it. Love, love, love, LOVE it. Rawr!!
Also, I have to say: I would not care at all about how my hair looked if I had this beauty on my nails.
My Favorite Color is Fall is a multi-chrome (red-brown-green-gold) holographic with UCC flakes. This polish has a fantastic formula that is opaque in 2 easy-peasy coats.
This polish is Fall in a Bottle. In fact, I think it should be named “Fall in a Bottle”. But I don’t pick the names for Carolina’s polishes. I think we are all more than grateful that this is the case. Seriously, I would probably end up naming every polish “Bob” or something like that. I am so lame.
But this polish is not lame at all! (See what I did there? Smooth, huh?) The color shift on this polish is unreal. It shifts so quickly, and the reds and oranges in here are gorgeous. All the colors are rich, deep, and beautiful. As if that isn’t enough, there are flakes, too! And the flakes are so, so, soooooooo pretty. Ugh. I love it so much that it makes me want to scream. But in a good way.
Stories Around the Fire is a clear base with Aurora shimmer (green/purple) with a mix of fall glitter. This has a great formula. It is not base-heavy at all, and you get a fantastic glitter pay-out with each swipe of the brush. It is beautiful at 1 coat over pretty much any color. But I think you could also get this opaque on its own with 3 coats.
I don’t wear a lot of glitter toppers. But I like this polish as a topper. I like it A LOT. It has a great mix of glitters. I like how there are different shapes and colors, but all of them are oh-so-very FALL. And the aurora shimmer is breathtaking. I love how a different shade of shimmer kind of “pops” out, depending on the base color. You can see more of the greens over certain colors. On others, you see more purple. But it looks fan-freaking-tastic over pretty much any base color.
Under the Stars is an intense teal crelly with Aurora shimmer (purple/green) and chameleon glitter (green/blue/purple). This polish has a great formula. It was opaque for me in 2 easy coats.
This is another polish that took me by surprise. I’m not usually much for the color teal, in general. I have destashed most of the teal polishes in my collection. So let’s say I had reservations about this color. But I flipped for the online swatches I saw.
This polish is so fantastic. I love the deep color tone. And those little glitters gave me so many happy feels. I’ve already worn this one in a full manicure, and I didn’t have any trouble with staining. I wore base coat, but nothing crazy — just 1 coat of base coat, like normal. So yeah. I LOVE IT!!
So I knew, from my first look at the collection online, that the blue would be a favorite. I completely expected this. What I did not expect was that the teal would be a favorite, too. And the red!! Oh my gosh, but the red crept up and took me completely by surprise.
Out of the Fall collections I have purchased so far this year, I think this one is my favorite. It’s a great size. It has a great variety of colors in it, although they are all still within that “traditional” Fall area of life. I love the shimmers and flakes and glitters. And that topper is delicate and oh-so-pretty on the nail.
I’m really not sure what to tell you, but you need all of these. Yes. NEED. (That might be the polish addict within me talking … *ahem*)
