Swatch My Stash! China Glaze #9: Purples

It’s time for more Swatch-a-thon Madness! I’m back for my weekly fun, and it’s time for purples! If I counted them properly, I have 20 purples to share, so I decided to split them into two posts. The plan is for this first post to include the light purples and a couple of darks. And the second post should be all dark purples.

Aaaaaand … off we go!

A Waltz in the Park is from the Spring 2017 Spring Pastels Collection. It’s a very pale, whited-out lavender creme. The formula is good, especially for a pastel. It’s slightly thin, but not too thin. It didn’t streak for me, and it’s easy to work over the nail. It’s opaque in 2 coats.

This is such a pretty and calm color. I’m not always into light pastels, but this is a great one. I enjoy it with my skin tone, and I like the formula. This one is a keeper.

Tart-y for the Party is from the Spring 2013 Avant Garden Collection. It’s a dusty, slightly grayed-out lilac creme.  The formula is good. It’s easily workable, and doesn’t run. There are a few streaks with the first coat, but the second coat evens those out nicely. It’s opaque in 2 coats.

I’ve had this polish for quite a while. And this is an older swatch photo, as you can see. I’ve been adjusting and perfecting my technique — ha, ha! At any rate, I’m already pretty attached to this one, since it’s been in my stash for a while. It’s a nice pastel. I like that it’s a bit on the darker end of the pastel “spectrum”. I like the dusty quality to it, and the formula is great. This one is a keeper.

Let’s Jam! is from the Summer 2016 Lite Brites Collection. It is a slightly red or pink-toned lilac with blue/turquoise shimmer. The formula is good. It’s a little sheer because of the shimmer, and it dries to a slightly rubbery texture on the nail. It’s opaque for me in 2 coats on short nails, but I might need 3 coats when my nails are longer.

I freaking love this polish! I love, love, love the shimmer. It shows on the nail and gives the polish a softer, almost ethereal look. This one is a keeper.

Shut the Front Door! is from the Spring 2016 House of Color Collection. It’s a red-toned purple with strong gold shimmer. The formula is good. It’s opaque in 2 coats.

This is another older swatch picture. They’re out there, folks! (eeeeek!)

I love this polish in the bottle. That shimmer is just … ugh! … so, so pretty! Sadly, I don’t love it on my nails. I’m not sure why. There is something about the color and finish together that I don’t enjoy seeing against my skin tone. I can’t believe I’m gonna type this, but this one is a destash. I feel a little sad about that. *sob*

Turn Up the Heat is from the Holiday 2015 Star Hopping Collection. It’s a magenta-purple jelly base with purple and silver glitter. The formula is good. It’s opaque in 2-3 coats, depending on nail length.

This is such a pretty and sparkly polish. I love the reddish-pink-purple color combination with those little hits of silver. This one is a keeper, all the way!

I Just Canter-lot is from the Summer 2017 My Little Pony Collection. It’s a grape-toned purple jelly base with purple holographic glitter. The formula is great. It’s opaque in 2 coats.

This is so new to my stash that I would keep it just for that reason. But I also ADORE it. It’s so pretty and sparkly and holographic. It’s a keeper.

Spontaneous is originally from the Flirt Two-2-Tango Collection, which (I think) came out in 2007. It’s a grape-toned purple creme. The formula is pretty fantastic. It’s smooth and creamy, and it applies like a dream. It’s opaque in 2 coats.

I’m pretty sure this is part of the core line. This is a newer polish in my stash. I think I got it two or three months ago, and I randomly ran across it in my local Rite Aid. This is a fabulous polish and a fabulous purple. I love the way it looks on my nails. This is such a great tone of purple. It’s fantastic for any time of the year. And the formula is a dream and a half. Needless to say, this one is a keeper!

Seas and Greetings is from the Holiday 2016 Seas and Greetings Collection. It’s a mid-tone blue leaning purple with red/magenta shimmer. The formula is good. It’s kind of thin, but workable, and it’s opaque in 2 coats.

This is a super, super pretty polish. It looks amazing on the nail. This is a newer polish for me. I waited until I found it on clearance in Sally’s. I love the shimmer, which is beautifully prominent on the nail. This one is a keeper.

Avalanche is from the 2007 Ski Collection. It’s a purple-gray metallic. The formula is good. It’s opaque in 2 coats, although it shows some brush strokes.

I don’t love this polish. I don’t love the finish on it, and I don’t love the way it looks more gray/silver than purple on the nail. This is a destash.

Summer Reign is from the Summer 2017 Summer Reign Collection. It’s a bright, vibrant, red-toned purple jelly. The formula is really good, especially for a jelly. It was opaque for me in 2 coats on my short nails, but I might want 3 coats when my nails are longer. It dries really fast to a matte, rubbery consistency.

This is new to my stash (obviously — ha, ha), so I haven’t had a chance to wear it in a full manicure yet. But I love the color and the formula, as well as the way it looks on the nail, especially with topcoat. I used topcoat on my index and ring fingers and left my pinky and middle nails matte. This one is a keeper.

That wraps it up for my first post of China Glaze purple goodness! As expected, I have more blues than anything else. Blue is my happy color, after all! But I was surprised to find out just how many China Glaze purples I have in my stash. There are some great ones in here, too! Next week, I’ll be back to round out my purples with the rest of the dark and vampy beauties! Yay!

  1. I love Shut The Front Door! You can send that one to me. Throw Avalanche in while you’re at it!

I am struck by how Seas and Greetings is so similar to OPI’s Feel The Chemis-Tree from this year’s holiday collection. How is it that nobody noticed this polish last year, but then went crazy for the OPI version this year? 🙂

    1. Oooh! I will check my destash box to see if they are still in there. If so, I will send them to you! (My daughter’s friends sometimes come over and browse through the box — LOL.) It hadn’t occurred to me that Seas and Greetings and Feel the Chemic-Tree were similar. I need to explore this in more depth!
