My Week in Nails … Times Two!

The last couple of weeks haven’t played well with my blogging or writing plans. I’ve been a ball of anxiety, stress, and depression, which hasn’t been a lot of fun. In the mix, there was an unexpected trip, a problem with my daughter’s grades, an unpleasant phone call to a teacher and a counselor, a string of emails, and a broken foot. Last week, I kind of forgot about my weekly wrap-up post. I didn’t have time to do it before I went out of town, and then it slipped my mind while I was traveling. So I had decided I would do a double whammy mani post this week.

I sat down yesterday to wrap up my two weeks of manicures, blog-style. In between running errands, doing laundry, and picking my Child Unit up from school, I wrote my post. I had it about two-thirds written, when my keyboard froze. By that time, I was worn out. I went to bed, thinking I would deal with everything this morning. And here I am. Back again. My keyboard is now working, but I lost everything I wrote yesterday. Argh! This has been the story of my life this month. One step forward. Twenty-five steps back.

But (!!) I’m here now. My keyboard is working. The sun is shining — sort of. Let’s look at some manis!

Last week, I only wore 2 manicures. Wha-aaat???!!?? What is this madness? I know. It’s unheard of for me to only have two manicures. It was weird and a bit unsettling. But, at the same time, I was kind of proud of this accomplishment. It’s not often you get two manicures in a row that you don’t want to take off. At least, it’s not often for me.

I started out last week with Top Shelf Lacquer, Not Your Average Unicorn Brew. This is one of my pretties from the October Polish Pickup Sale. I bought a lot more at that sale than previous ones, so I haven’t gotten through all of my order yet. I’ve swatched them all, but haven’t worn all of them.

This polish is so, so pretty. It’s a beautiful, rosy gold base with linear holo, copper fleck, and multi-colored metallic flakes. There is so much detail packed into this polish. I love it. It feels special and elegant on the nail. I love the spark of different colors off of the rose gold base. This was my first time trying out Top Shelf Lacquer, but I am beyond thrilled with this polish. I may have to search out more from this brand. This is the danger of Polish Pickup. It’s not for wimps — ha, ha!

For my next manicure, I decided to do a water marble. I used OPI, This Isn’t Greenland, Green Come True, and That’s What Friends are Thor, and I decided on a petal design. It had been a while since my last petal water marble. I usually do linear ones, because I’ve fallen in love with that type of pattern. Since I’ve started keeping my nails on the shorter side, it can be hard to get the petals narrow enough so that they look good on my nails. These polishes all spread and worked perfectly in the water. I felt like I was able to get a good shape and design onto my nails.

I loved this manicure. I did not want to take it off. If I hadn’t been going out of town, I probably would have worn it until it chipped or showed significant tip wear. I didn’t want to travel with any polish, since my trip was short. And I had already worn this manicure for about 3-4 days; it was already showing wear at the tips. I knew it wouldn’t last the rest of my trip. I love these colors together. This almost felt like a camouflage water marble. I think I could go in that direction if I tried more random patterns. Maybe a linear pattern, much as I love the petals on this one, would have given a more “camouflage” look.

For my first manicure of this week, I wore Colores de Carol, Slappy’s Tie. Oh my gosh, but this is a magnificent red. Magnificent!! I decided this would be my travel polish because it’s dark, vampy, a whole lotta “fall”, and super holographic. I decided on this for my travel polish because my destination typically has a lot of sun. I couldn’t wait to see this baby spark to life in the sunlight. Wouldn’t you know it? During the time I was there, it was rainy and cloudy every day, except for the day I left. Total bummer. Even without the holo, this is a stunning polish. It looks like red velvet on the nail.

For my next manicure, I wore Colores de Carol, Sombrero. I arrived home to the same rainy, cloudy, chilly weather I had left. It seemed like the perfect time for some multi-chrome action. And it was! There were some glimpses of sun in between the clouds, so I got to see a little bit of holographic sparkle action. But, mostly, I enjoyed the many color shifts in this polish. It was fantastic. The whole Cosmic Summer Collection is magical, but I think this one is probably my favorite because I love the blue, purple, and turquoise shifts I can see in it.

Next up was Glam Polish, Dreamcatcher. I’ve had this polish for a while (about a month), but I haven’t talked about it yet on the blog. I had planned on doing a Nail Mail Monday post including this polish, one other from Glam, and a couple from Pretty Serious. My Pretty Serious order took a really long time to get to me, so the post never went up. I may still do it for this coming Monday. I’m not sure.

But I am sure I love this polish! It’s fantabulous! I love the deep, dark blues with a sprinkling of turquoise and even purple in the mix. It had some nice sparkle and color shift in the sunlight. It’s a gorgeous, gorgeous polish.

And, finally, we have Pretty Serious, My Immortal. Ugh. Stick a fork in me, because I am DONE! I love this polish. I waited a month for it to get to me, and it was totally, completely, absolutely worth it. I think this might be one of the best blues I own. It is so beautiful and bright that it almost sizzles off the nail. But, as the light shifts, you can catch a lot of the aqua/turquoise shimmer, as well as teeny hints of purple. It’s just beyond amazing.

And that, folks, is my Double Mani Whammy post! I’ve been lucky over the past couple of weeks to hit on polishes from my stash that make me so, so happy. Well, every polish in my stash makes me happy. But not every polish is one that I don’t want to take off. That probably makes no sense, although I’m certain my polish lovin’ peeps will understand.

For my manicures next week, I’m thinking about going color themed. I have a LOT of blue polishes that need to be worn, including quite a few from my October Polish Pickup order. Hmmm …

  1. You caught the shift in Sombrero so nicely!

My Immortal – I’ve seen a couple swatch videos of this one lately and it kind of reminds me of Frostbite on steroids!!!! I see now that it’s actually a lighter shade of blue, now that I’ve seen your swatches.

    1. Sombrero has the nicest shift! It was easily my favorite from that collection. Ooooh! Frostbite on steroids! Yes! That’s a great description for My Immortal. I can’t get over how freaking bright that polish is. It’s really fabulous. I ended up getting a back-up. I have no regrets. Ha, ha!
