Tuesday Untrieds #2

So here we are: Tuesday yet again. I should have set this feature up for Mondays, because Mondays are always the suck. Well, almost always. Most of the time.

Anyhow, I digress … On to our untried polishes for this week. Woo-hoo!!

First up is Color Club, Cold Metal, from the 2011 Foiled Collection. This is a vibrant, slightly darkened electric blue with a foil finish. This polish was super easy to apply. I had no problems and no brush strokes. It was opaque in two gorgeous coats, and almost could have been good in one. If I recall correctly, I had low spots on a couple of nails, which is why I ended up doing two coats.

This polish is such perfection. I love, love, love it. So, so much. Foil finishes are among my favorites. I love how they have a bit of hidden bling and extra depth to them. And this color is right up my alley. Blues are my absolute jam. Whenever I see a gorgeous, perfect blue, my heart skips a beat. And this color has it pitter-pattering away like mad. The name is pretty great, too. I didn’t have any staining on my skin with this one, so I don’t think it will stain my nails. But I didn’t wear it for very long. I hope to remedy that in the near future. This one is going in my gotta-wear-it-soon pile!

Next up is China Glaze, No Peeking, from the Holiday 2014 Twinkle Collection. This is an eggplant purple with a frosty, almost pearlescent finish. This was easily opaque in two coats. It almost could have been done in one, but I like the way two deepened up the color. There were some brush strokes with application, but they mostly disappeared as the polish leveled out and with top coat.

Frosts usually aren’t my cup of tea. If pushed, I would have to say they are my least favorite type of finish. Even so, I quite liked this one. The frosty finish and cool color tone make for a really nice combination. It looks like purple liquid metal on my nails. What’s not to love about that? I don’t think I will wear this one as a full manicure soon, but I might try to pull it out of my drawers next Fall. This could be a good pedicure color, too.

This is CND Vinylux, Poison Plum, from the Fall 2015 Contradictions Collection. This polish has a reddish-plum jelly base with red and black glitter. I did two coats for my swatch picture, but I still had a lot of trouble with low and uneven spots on my nails. Maybe I should have done three, but, in all honesty, I was just done with this polish after two. It was not easy to apply, as you can readily see from my picture.

I do not like this polish. And that makes me sad, because it looks so beautiful in the bottle. I really wanted to like it. Alas, it was not meant to be. This one is too clumpy and textured on the nail. Application is super messy because the formula is so finicky. Ugh. Such a disappointment. I kind of want to cry a little bit, deep down in my heart. Needless to say, this one is getting destashed. As quickly as possible. Seriously, Poison Plum … I … I can’t even look at you. *sigh*

Next, is  Fingerpaints, Tinsel & Tidings, from the Holiday 2015 ‘Tis the Season to Sparkle Collection. This one is a glitter topper, although it might be opaque with three sponged coats. There is a lot of glitter packed in here. This has different sizes of gold, pink, and blue  metallic glitters — mostly hexes, but there might be a few rectangles or squares tossed into the mix. I didn’t get any of these out on my nails in the swatch picture, but I saw them in the bottle.

This is a nice topper. It has a lot of glitter payoff, although the base on mine was a tad thicker than I would like. I love the bright colors. It’s festive for holidays, but also good for any time of the year because the glitter colors aren’t “traditional” for holidays. I think this topper would be beautiful over a variety of colors. I don’t think I will be pulling this one out again all that soon, but I’m definitely keeping it in mind for the next time I want a colorful topper. Hmmm … maybe a weekly theme of “toppers” could be fun for a Week In Nails post one of these days. Something to think about.

And, wrapping up this edition of Try Them On Tuesday is Essie, Udon Know Me, from the Fall 2015 Collection. This polish is a dusty, light blue creme. In looking at the bottle, this one almost seems to have a bit of shimmer happening. It isn’t at all apparent on the nail as “shimmer”, but maybe this is what gives this polish its dusty hue. It looks blue in some lights and gray in others. I felt like the formula was decent. It was opaque in two coats, with easy application and minimal streaking.

Essie isn’t a favorite brand of mine. Usually, I purchase them on clearance. But this polish was one of two that I bought from the Fall 2015 collection. I couldn’t resist this beautiful, muted blue color. You know me and blues! Sadly, I left this one sitting around for about forever without trying it. It’s a really nice polish, though. And I think it might be a nice transitional polish from Spring to Summer because of the muted, almost pastel quality to it. I’m hoping to wear this one soonish.
